Please also note that if your business is VAT registered and required to submit VAT returns under the Making Tax Digital scheme (due to be all VAT registered businesses by April 2022), then it is critical to have an accounting software system in place that is MTD compliant to complete this requirement.

Most accountancy software solutions are now cloud based and work under a monthly subscription model. The monthly costs can vary dependent on requirements, add ons, etc but the average cost is £20 – 25 + VAT per month.

The biggest benefit of cloud-based accountancy software is the ability to share the software across users. This can include employees within your business being given access to the software but each with different access rights.

As we can also be set up as one of your ‘users’, It also provides us with real time access to your software which allows us to provide you and your staff with remote support on a wide range of topics such as correcting errors, setting up accounts and ledgers, and even training of the software.

Other benefits to cloud based software include:

• Accessibility – The ability to be able to access the software from multiple computers. Some also have apps to allow access from tablets and mobile phones to keep up to date on the go.
• Data Security – No need for regular back ups and to worry about the risk of losing key data on your computer as your data is backed up in real time in the software’s cloud system.
• Integration – A number of software providers will have options to integrate and work with other software tools which can improve the efficiency and quality of the bookkeeping data being entered.

We are Xero certified advisors, and this would be our recommended software in most circumstances. However, there are far more accountancy software solutions then you would probably expect and we can provide and advise several alternative options.
